Carson City, NV, September 30, 2005—Calculated Industries, Inc., a leading manufacturer of specialty calculators has announced the release of the Quilter’s FabriCalc which will be formally introduced October 27, 2005 at the International Quilt Market Dealer Fall Show and Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.

The new Quilter’s FabriCalc is a 42-key hand-held portable calculator that has been produced specifically for quilting design and yardage calculations. The calculator can also be used for sewing projects where the Yardage function is used for determining Yards of fabric in fractional or decimal yardage.  It works in Yards, Inch-Fractions, Meters, Centimeters, and Millimeters and converts dimensions between U.S. and Metric measurement.

All the keys are labeled in quilting terms and the calculator provides understandable built-in solutions with explanatory labels. It has been intuitively designed by color-coding and organizing the function keys in groups for various categories based on how a user would “break-down” individual quilting pieces and determine the amount of fabric required to make a quilt.  “Reverse calculations” can also be done easily allowing the designer to effectively use material in their fabric “Stash”.

“The Quilter’s FabriCalc was developed primarily for the “traditional” or “patchwork” quilter. Patchwork quilting is the most common form of quilting and would come to the minds of most Americans if asked to describe a quilt,” said Steve Kennedy, Calculated Industries’ President and General Manager. “The idea behind development of a calculator for quilters was championed by Susie Blades, long-time Calculated Industries staff member, quilt designer and a former quilt-shop owner.”

“It is an ideal tool.  It helps the quilter easily complete the calculations needed to plan and estimate the amount of fabric required for a quilt,” according to Blades.  “The quilter can be confident that the mathematics are accurate and focus on the creative aspects of design and layout.”
